$100,000 RESEARCH GRANT

In 2016, we set a huge goal to FUND LOEYS-DIETZ SYNDROME RESEARCH! The LDSF is very excited to announce that we have supported Dr. Elena MacFarlane at the Johns Hopkins University with a $100,000 research gift as she joins the faculty and continues her studies in TGF-β vasculopathy. As a Postdoctoral and Research Fellow in the Dietz lab, Elena's research has been critical in uncovering the role of paradoxically enhanced TGF-β signaling in aneurysm pathology in the mouse model of Loeys-Dietz syndrome. As she continues her work within the Department of Surgery and Institute of Genetic Medicine at Johns Hopkins, we are elated that she will be continuing on the legacy of Loeys-Dietz and TGF-β research.

Thank you to EVERYONE who gave and continues to give generously to support the LDSF mission. Stay tuned over the next few months to learn more about Dr. MacFarlane and about her LDS research.

WITH THANKS - CHICAGOLAND FUDRAISER

Sunday, May 7th, proved to be an amazing day for the Chicagoland LDS families group and the surrounding community. It was a day that helped to educate individuals and raise awareness of Loeys-Dietz Syndrome.  It was a day to remember those who have lost their lives to this condition and a day to celebrate the courage and recognize the struggles of individuals still living with LDS. This annual fundraising event began with a memorial balloon release as a kickoff to start the beautiful array of indoor and outdoor afternoon events.  A walk in honor of our LDS angels and our LDS warriors took place immediately after the balloon release and block party-like activities proceeded. More than 400 people were in attendance to show their love and support. This event brought in a total of $70,000, which will be used to help support the mission of the LDSF. Thank you to everyone who "took heart" and did their part in making this event a true success. Job well done! If you or anyone you know is interested in raising funds to benefit the LDSF and would like some advice and/or direction, please send an email to fundraising@loeysdietz.org. We are more than happy to help!
